Book Recommendation: A Brief History of Lager by Mark Dredge

I was one of those craft beer people that said 'I don't like lager'. Before I discovered beer properly with my first Sam Adams, beer was fizzy, yellow and tasteless - but that was commercial macro euro lager. And that, my dear readers is only one type of lager.

As it turns out I do like lager, I like particular types of lager and this book by Mark Dredge really pointed this out to me. I'm still not a fan of German Pilsner and often Helles, but give me a Marzen or a Dopplebock and I'm a happy girl. These are part of the lager family after all.

Dredge takes you through the history of this wide spread style with anecdotes and almost a travelogue of all the places he has tried different lagers around the world. It puts the style in context (and as we know this is very important!) and it has made me go out of my way to try different styles after reading about them.

Now I want to go to Oktoberfest!!
