Hops: Hallertau Mittelfrueh

Hallertauer Mittelfrueh, Hallertau and Hallertauer are all names that this hop goes by.

It is one of the original 'noble' hops and comes from Germany. Hallertau is the largest area of hop growing in the world and the hop is ready to harvest in the middle of the season - Mittelfrueh means 'middle-early'.

This hop was not bred but grew naturally and it is thought there are no records of it's origin. Hallertau produces lightly floral and spicy-herbal aromas, it is commonly used in lagers as it imparts a smooth bitterness.
