Our craft beer Valentine’s selection - looking sexy!

Our craft beer Valentine’s selection - looking sexy!

We tried to bring a bit of sexiness to the podcast this week while looking at craft beer Valentines. But we don’t just want to beer your valentine (see what I did there?!), we could be your Galentine, or just help you enjoy a bit of me time with a good beer - after all, if you can’t love yourself, how the hell can you love anybody else?!

We picked out a few sexy looking beers for you and also discussed beer gifts, beer desserts and beery activities you could do with a loved one.

Have A Break by Fierce

Have A Break by Fierce

We started off with a pale ale - when you think of sexy beers your mind tends to go to chocolate and stouts, so we decided to go against the norm. Much like the brewer of this beer, Fierce. They have taken a classic chocolate bar and made it into a pale beer. The aroma is light chocolate, despite the colour of this beer, with malty wafer. The taste is chewy and sweet just like the centre of a Kit Kat. This is a clever beer that delivers what it says on the can. Maybe not that sexy, but definitely interesting!

While we sipped this we talked about breweries that have valentine’s gift offers - have a listen to find out what Siren, Wild Beer Co and Toast have available.

Moose Mousse by Fierce

Moose Mousse by Fierce

We went a bit Fierce Beer heavy on this episode - but they just had the sexiest beers on offer! Moose Mousse is a classic for this, emulating a dark chocolate mousse in a sessionable stout. It has a rich chocolate aroma, a light carbonation tiz on the tongue leading to a mousse-like mouthfeel. This isn’t a sweet beer though; it is rich, decadent, full of bitter dark chocolate and roasty bitterness.

It would go well in a beer dessert - check out the recording to find out which sexy desserts we recommend you make and pair with beer.

Extra Brownie Pints by Brew York

Another beer, and another stout (though a milk stout this time) that is amazing in a dessert is Extra Brownie Pints. I’ve used this in, not surprisingly, brownies and it really gives them a lift. I’ll add a blog post about that one day!

The thing is - you may not have any of this beer left to bake with because it is so delicious! This is a nutty, caramelly, chocolaty powerhouse of a milk stout. You get all of the flavours on the can - peanut and hazelnut on the nose, with a caramel background. This leads to a thick and chewy mouthfeel with a good balance of nuttiness, caramel and rich chocolate. The only drawback to this beer is it does not taste it’s 11% which is very dangerous! Definitely a sexy beer!

Strawberry Tigers & Rooftop Jacuzzis by Abbeydale

Strawberry Tigers & Rooftop Jacuzzis by Abbeydale

Look at that can! If that isn’t sexy, I don’t know what is!

This is a very interesting beer from Abbeydale. On the can it says it is a strawberry, chocolate, smoked, cherry wood-chipped, imperial dessert stout. I love a smoked beer, but this was a bit odd. I got a lot of the smoke and the cherry wood, especially in the aroma. That’s not a surprise as they basically dry hopped it with the wood chips. The strawberry comes through as a creaminess in the taste. But it’s a bit overpowered by the smoke and wood, despite it only have a small amount of smoked barley in it. I didn’t get a lot of chocolate. A dessert beer I wouldn’t call it - but it is certainly interesting and worth tasting. I think it would also make a great sharing beer with the beer taster in your life.

Now that’s a good date idea! Why not treat your loved one to a tasting session? Want some more ideas for dates or activities to do to treat yourself? Well, you’re just going to have to listen!

Hopefully we had something sexy for you there - if not, let us know what sexy beers you would recommend for Valentine’s, Galentine’s or to treat yourself in the comments below.
