Beer Styles: Belgian Golden Strong Ale

The most recognisable Belgian Golden Strong Ale is Duvel, developed by the Moortgat brewery after WWI. It was produced to combat the popularity of the pilsner style that was taking over.

The name of the beer typically gives reference to the devil. When tasting this style you will notice a massive rocky white head on the pour and a clear fizzy gold colour.

The beer is highly carbonated and has little residual sweetness, making it very clean and dry. There should be a balance of fruity and hop notes with a spiciness in the background. It has a high to very high ABV so you may be able to taste the alcohol in this.
