Beer Brownies!
The hubs was having a hard time this weekend, so I decided to treat him to some brownies. Beer brownies to be precise! I developed this recipe during lockdown – it comes out perfect every time and you can even make it without beer if you want. I posted my brownies on Insta and was asked for the recipe. As I went to share my recipe from here…. I realised I hadn’t actually shared it on the blog! So, here for your baking pleasure, is my beer brownie recipe!
Beer Brownie Ingredients:
200g caster sugar
113g butter, melted
30g cocoa powder
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons beer of choice
2 eggs
113g plain flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
Beer Brownie Method:
Mix all ingredients in the order given.
Bake at 180 C / Gas mark 4 for 20 - 25 minutes in a rectangular greased baking tin.
Cool, and slice into equal square portions.
Super simple and quick to make! They are great warm or serve this ice cream for a decadent dessert.
Notes on beer for beer brownies
I’ve done some experimenting with beers for beer brownies over the time I’ve been baking them. The beer selection makes a real difference in beer brownies, as it turns out. I would strongly suggest a stout for these – coffee or chocolate flavours you can’t go wrong with. I’ve also tested a tiramisu stout and a stout that mimics chocolate brownies. Be aware of levels of sweetness with these ones. A milk stout for example will add a lot of sweetness to a recipe that is already sweet! If you want something a bit more savoury consider a stout with added chilli or spices. Beer brownies can be quite versatile – I’ve used them as a base for beer tiramisu as well, check out that recipe here!
Additions to Beer Brownies
I don’t like anything added to my beer brownies. There! I’ve said it! I don’t like nuts, chocolate chips or chunks, anything like that. But if you like additions in your brownies feel free to add away. Again – think about how much sweetness you will be adding with the additions. These come out quite cake-like so heavier additions like nuts may sink. Think about how you might chop these up.
I hope you enjoy this recipe! Share it with your friends so they can make them as well!
