Neon Raptor

Sneinton Market, Nottingham, UK

Neon Raptor started brewing in a kitchen with brewing kit from Wilkos. They entered a beer into a homebrew competition at Brewdog Nottingham, won and the rest is history!

Starting out gypsy & cuckoo brewing before settling in Sneinton Market in 2018, they produce a wide range of beer styles, making beer accessible to everyone. I'm a massive fan of their dark beers but they make some very tasty fruit, sour and pale beers too.

I was lucky enough to visit their taproom back in December 2019 and the light, airy space is perfect for sampling a few styles with friends (when we are allowed again).

For their 100 Gyle brew (a specialist term used by brewers for the number of brews completed at one brewery), Neon Raptor asked their fans what they should brew. The answer was Centaur Army, a peanut butter, chocolate and caramel imperial stout. I was lucky enough to sample this at the taproom and it is as amazing as it sounds! Black with red highlights and a low tan head, it boasts a caramel aroma followed by nutty peanut and sweet caramel. All this follows through in a mouthcoating body.

One of my favourite beers from this year's Brewdog Collabfest was from Neon Raptor and Brewdog Leicester - Clusters - a chocolate and peanut butter stout - another dark one, I know! It was a perfect balance of roasty and sweet with a chewy mouthfeel. Both Centaur Army and Clusters are still about - check them out if you can!
