Not only do Duration make amazing beer, but they also have a great mission.

Bates and Miranda run the brewery from a renovated barn in West Norfolk.  They aim to be as sustainable as possible and use local ingredients and suppliers.

The range of beers from Duration is right up my street - From pale ales and New England IPAs to table beers and Pilsners, there is something for everything.  Duration has a barrel program and a coolship to produce wild and blended farm-style beers.  Their first batches of these came out this year – the Fermata range.  One of these – Dropped Limb, a collaboration with Verdant, had an actual fallen tree branch added to the coolship!  I’ve got this in my stash and can’t wait to try it.

Some of my favourite beers from them include Harvest Bier - a beautiful Marzen, Quiet Song - a witbier and Little Fanfare - a grisette.  They also have produced saisons - the most interesting being made with purple carrots!

Deep Roots - the purple carrot beer!

Here’s what I thought of those:

 Harvest Bier

A malt forward beer,  light amber and clear with a thick bubbly white head. Sweet, toasty, bread crust malt on the aroma with some caramel. Well carbonated, bread crust malt sweetness with a light bitter finish from the toastiness.  This was everything I wanted from a Marzen!

 Quiet Song

This wit beer is full of esters. Clear gold with a thick creamy white head. Bubblegum and spicy clove aroma with creamy wheat in the background. Carbonated, lightly bitter, peppery spice and refreshing citrus. A delicious creamy finish.

 Little Fanfare

A grisette is a smaller version of a saison so is often yeast forward. This one is clear bright yellow with a bubbly lacing white head. There is light spice on the aroma with light citrus – beautifully fragrant. Lightly carbonated, floral and light finishing with subtle orange citrus. Very refreshing.  This was my first grisette and I want to investigate the style further after this citrusy number.
